This Week in History
This weekâs historical tidbit comes from the Williamstown Historical Society.
One thing I love about the west, is the history here. Itâs a bit grim (apologies if youâre reading this with your Tuesday morning breakfast), but interesting in itâs own way.
On the 22nd of March, 1858 - Captain Lawrence Lawson, a Master Mariner and long-term resident of Williamstown, was the first person buried at the 'new' cemetery.
Before the cemetery, there were makeshift graves in Gellibrand Point. The impromptu site quickly became the last resting place of shipâs fever victims, sailors and convicts, as well as Williamstownâs early pioneers, who migrated to the seaside town to make a better life for themselves.
But as the population grew, so did the town, and having a cemetery became a priority.
In 1899 more than 800 corpses were dug up from Point Gellibrand and re-interred at the new site.
Foodie Corner: Bezirk Cafe in Altona
I have driven past Bezirk Cafe in Altona forever, but finally got around to going in last week. It really stood out as a fantastic breakfast spot. The vibe was warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxed morning. The staff greeted me with a smile and made sure I felt welcome right away.
The menu offered a great variety of breakfast options. I opted for the good old fashioned avocado toast, which was fresh and delicious. They also had a selection of coffee that paired perfectly with my meal. It's clear they take pride in their ingredients.
The seating arrangement is quite comfortable, with both indoor and outdoor options. It was nice to enjoy my meal while soaking up some sun outsied. The atmosphere is perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet moment alone.
I can see why this place has so many positive reviews. It's a wonderful spot for anyone in the Altona area looking for a great breakfast experience.

True or False: Spotswood was named after John Stewart Spotswood, who was one of the first farmers who owned much of the area in the 1840s.
The answer was, of course, True
đ„ This Weekâs Trivia đ„
This weekâs trivia is a lot more recent. I wonder if youâve heard much about this, or maybe even seen it.

A) Chris Hemsworth
B) Daniel Craig

Local Business Recommendation
Pia from Williamstown gave us a great recommendation this week.
I am pretty new to the town, but I definitely feel like I am now a local after going to Roccos Deli in Yarraville. I got one of the famous Roccos Rolls after seeing them in Instagram.
It was literally one the best sandwiches Iâve ever eaten. All the meats were cut fresh (and there was plenty of it!), the bread was top notch, and the pesto they put on the bottom was really nice.
We went pretty late for lunch (around 3pm) but there was still a fair few people there, although they didnât have any of the cannoli left. Guess that means Iâll have to go back!
If you havenât had a chance yet, you need to go.
