Local Business Recommendation: Chubbby Nails

This week’s awesome recommendation is from one of our readers, Rachel. If you have a business you would like to recommend, fill this form out.

“I’ve been going to Chubbby Nails for a while now, and it’s honestly one of the best decisions I’ve made for myself. It’s a small, personal nail salon—not one of those busy, rushed places. It’s quiet, clean, and the atmosphere is really calming, and full of vibes.

What I appreciate most is how much care goes into the service. It never feels rushed or impersonal. Thy really listens to what you want, takes their time, and makes sure you’re happy with the result. You can tell they actually care about their work and their clients.

The polish lasts, the shaping is always on point, and there’s a good selection of colors without it feeling overwhelming. I’ve even gotten compliments days later when I’m out running errands.

If you’re someone who enjoys a more personal, relaxed vibe and wants your nails done right, I’d definitely recommend checking it out. It’s a little gem that’s become part of my routine now.“

Massive thnaks to Rachel for leaving a recommendation. If you have a business you would like to recommend, fill this form out.

ANZAC Day Guide

With ANZAC Day on Friday, there’s plenty of events on. This section is dedicated to

As you can probably imagine, I can’t list every commemorative ANZAC Day event in Melbourne’s west here. But here’s a quick rundown.

Hobsons Bay City will host multiple ANZAC Day events, with dawn services in Williamstown, Altona, Spotswood/South Kingsville, and Seabrook, as well as a midday service in Newport. Road closures will be in effect around major events (e.g. Nelson Place in Williamstown, Pier Street in Altona) during the dawn services.

In the afternoon, the Newport RSL will hold its commemorative service at Paine Reserve from 1pm to 2pm.

The City of Maribyrnong does not host official ANZAC Day ceremonies in 2025. Residents in suburbs like Footscray, Seddon, Yarraville, and Braybrook are encouraged to attend services in neighboring areas (such as Hobsons Bay or at the Melbourne Shrine).

The Sunshine RSL Sub-Branch will host a Dawn Service at the Sunshine War Memorial (99 Dickson St) at 6:45am. This well-attended service often draws hundreds of locals. A gunfire breakfast at the RSL hall will follow (gold coin donation appreciated)

The Keilor Historical Society is organizing an ANZAC Day Commemoration Service at the Keilor Cenotaph (Keilor Community Hub, 704B Old Calder Hwy) starting at 10:30am on ANZAC Day. The program includes short speeches by the Society’s president and local veterans, wreath-laying by Scouts and school children, and free coffee for attendees.

The Werribee RSL Sub-Branch will hold the official Dawn Service at the Werribee Cenotaph (Station Place, at Watton St) starting 6:30am on Friday, 25 April 2025. The service is open to all – public viewing is typically from Station Place/Watton St intersection. After the ceremony, attendees are invited back to Werribee RSL (2A Synnot St) for breakfast (egg & bacon rolls, sausage sizzle – proceeds to veteran welfare).

Point Cook: A Community Dawn Service will be held at Saltwater Reserve in Point Cook at 6:00am

Dawn Service at the Melton Shrine of Remembrance (at the Civic Centre, High St) – Service begins 6:00am

There’s plenty on this week. As you can imagine, being the first week of school holidays (how quick did that term go, by the way!) there’s plenty on to keep the kids busy.

On top of that, there’s plenty of events for all ages.
