🧃Inner West Melbourne Events: 1st - 7th July

Happy Tuesday, Westies.

The school holidays are here this weekend and the west is alive — from ice rinks in Werribee to ghost tours by the bay, jazz nights at local wineries, and markets brimming with wintery treats.

This week brings something for everyone — think pop-up karaoke in Werribee, drag bingo in a historic castle at Keilor, and food truck feasts under twinkling lights in Spotswood. Families can explore hands-on science fun, Lego sessions, or a heritage stroll through Williamstown’s hidden laneways.

Whether you’re up for a big night out, a creative day with the kids, or just a warming glass of wine by live music, Melbourne’s west has you covered.

Bundle up and get out there — the west is worth exploring, even in the cold.

Local Business Recommendation: Crowded House

Nestled in the heart of Williamstown, Crowded House Café is a beloved local spot known for its vibrant atmosphere and quality offerings. The café boasts a warm, inviting interior complemented by a spacious outdoor courtyard, making it a perfect destination for both sunny days and cozy catch-ups.

Service at Crowded House is noted for being friendly and accommodating too. When I tried to navigate a pram in the rain on Sunday, everyone was super happy to help.

Local News

I’m trying this section for the first time. Let me know what you think! I’ll aim to get around to covering some of the local announcements and news.

  • AFLW Coming to Werribee: It’s confirmed that an AFL Women’s match is headed to Werribee. The AFL announced that Chirnside Park will host a preseason AFLW game, marking the first time an elite women’s football fixture is played in Melbourne’s outer west. Local fans and aspiring female footballers are excited for the exposure and inspiration this brings to the community.

  • Techno Park Residents Win Battle: A group of Williamstown residents living in the former Techno Park industrial estate have earned a reprieve from eviction. Two years after council sought to remove them, Hobsons Bay Council has decided to allow some residents to stay, acknowledging the need for compassion and creative housing solutions.

  • Major Public Transport Boost for the West: Starting 1 July 2025, Melbourne’s western suburbs will benefit from 470 additional weekly bus trips across routes 170, 180, 190, and 192. These enhancements aim to improve connectivity to key destinations like Werribee, Tarneit, and Wyndham Vale train stations, as well as shopping centres such as Pacific Werribee and Manor Lakes Central. The initiative is part of a $162 million investment to enhance public transport services in growing communities.
