This Week in History
Seventy-one years ago this week, Williamstown runner Geoff Warren etched his name into the record books with a stunning performance at the Olympic Park Twilight Meeting. On that historic evening in 1954, Warren clocked 13 minutes 55.6 seconds in the 3-mile event, breaking the Australian record previously held by his own coach and clubmate, Les Perry (13:57.8).

Sarah from Newport gave us a great recommendation this week.
Last week I went to the Happy Apple supermarket in Newport, next to the station. The produce was really fresh. The staff were incredibly friendly, and happy to help. I don’t know if it’ll become my regular shopping destination, but I’ll be getting a lot more fruit and veg there, that’s for sure.

Foodie Corner: Bar Romanée in Yarraville
I recently checked out Bar Romanée in Yarraville, and it’s definitely a standout spot. Tucked away on Anderson Street, it has that perfect mix of classy and comfortable—fancy enough for a special night out but still relaxed and welcoming.
The menu is a great mix of modern Australian dishes with a European twist, and everything I tried was packed with flavour. You can tell they really care about using top-quality, seasonal ingredients, and the results speak for themselves.
I’m not going to pretend I’m much of a wine person, but I checked some reviews from locals and from what I gather, the wine list is well thought out, with a mix of Aussie and international options. The staff really know their stuff, too—they gave some great pairing suggestions that made the whole meal even better.
Well worth checking out.
If you’ve got any great food suggestions, reply to this email and let me know. I’m always up for a good suggestion.
