🧃 Burger Quest Continues! Westgate Juice: February 18th - 24th

Good morning, fellow westies. Welcome to the last full week of summer. Make sure you take the opportunity to get out and enjoy what is left of the sun.

Update: Best Burger in Western Melbourne?

Last week, I asked for help in my quest to find the best burger place in western Melbourne.

And I’ll tell you what, so far, the people have delivered!

So far, we have the following suggestions:

  • Good Good Burger (Maidstone)

  • 8Bit (Footscray)

  • Barbarian Brewing (Kingsville)

  • BAM Street Food (Altona)

  • Sideshow Burgers (Williamstown)

Now, that’s a pretty good list to get started with. I’ve only tried a couple of those places before - so my ā€˜must eat’ list is growing.

But I know that there’s more options out there.

So, if you’ve got a favourite that hasn’t been shared yet (or if you vouch for any of the above suggestions), reach out.

The winner will be christened and receive the coveted Burger Trophy. Let us begin the Great Burger Quest of the West! Stay tuned as I report back on my findings.

Local Trivia

šŸ  Last Week’s Trivia šŸ

To those who answered the trivia last week, Werribee comes from the Aboriginal word for:

a) Spine

Here’s a little more info about Werribee, and the Werribee river which it gets it’s name from. This information is taken directly from Melbourne Water: The Werribee River forms the natural boundary between the lands of the Woi Wurrung and Boon Wurrung peoples. Many fish traps, artefacts and burial sites can be found along the river’s banks, evidence of large campsites.

The river has had at least four names: ā€˜Arndell’, named in 1834 by explorers Hume and Hovell after the latter’s father-in-law; ā€˜Peel’ and then ā€˜the Ex’, named by surveyor John Helder Wedgeb, who rediscovered the river in 1835. Its current name comes from the Aboriginal words Weariby (spine) and Yallock (stream), with the spelling later changed to Werribee.

Photo of the Week

Just a bit of a drive, is the underrated You Yangs mountain range out near Werribee. One of my absolute favourite spots. This photo from @visitwerribeeandsurrounds, which was potentially originally posted from @sarahpollardd on Instagram, captures the vibe well.
